Mikael Silvestre, a former Arsenal defender, has expressed concern over Arsenal’s defensive transfer target Matthijs de Ligt, who presently plays for Bayern Munich.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal is considering a deal for the Netherlands international to boost their central defensive department.
In the central defense position, the Gunners already have William Saliba and Gabriel.
Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Jakub Kiwior, and Jurrien Timber are all capable of filling the role.
Silvestre, on the other hand, is unsure of De Ligt’s possible influence upon his arrival at the Emirates Stadium.
“I haven’t seen much of De Ligt recently to assess his current form.” However, it is clear that he is not reaching his full potential,” Silvestre told the Esports community GG Recon (via HITC).
“He was incredible for Ajax in 2019, when they reached the Champions League semi-finals.” However, we have not noticed a significant improvement in Matthijs’ progress since then, which raises some concerns.”
“Can he advance to the next level?” Can he reach the same heights as Virgil van Dijk? “When you show such maturity at such a young age, as he did as Ajax captain, you expect these players to step up,” Silvestre continued.
