Browns 2023 season review: The Highs, the Lows and the Future
The Cleveland Browns had an unforgettable season in 2023. There were highs, plenty of lows, and a lot to look forward to in 2024 It’s safe to say that the Browns’ 2023 season didn’t end as anticipated. Although the season ended on the heels of a crushing 45-14 loss in Houston during the wild-card round of the playoffs, there’s plenty of reason for Browns fans to be optimistic heading into the offseason and 2024 season.
The 2023 season for Cleveland was a roller coaster, to say the least. But no matter what way you put it, the team fought through adversity, created an identity for themselves, and proved to the rest of the league that they are for real. Among the highs, there were certainly some lows and room for improvement
Injuries are something that happen to every team around the NFL, every single season. It’s unfortunate but they are inevitable, they come with playing the game of football. Year in and year out, there are always teams who are less fortunate and more fortunate when it comes to the injury bug. It’s safe to say that the Browns got the short end of the stick in 2023.
The injury plague began in the preseason for Cleveland, starting with linebacker Jacob Phillips suffering a pectoral injury for the second straight season, requiring surgery and ending his season before it really got started. Shortly after, return specialist and wide receiver Jakeem Grant Sr. Grant, who had spent the entire 2022 season rehabbing from a ruptured Achilles injury that he suffered in the summer. His first on-the-field action in over a year ended in heartbreak as he suffered the same injury for the second straight year. Grant wasn’t the only Brown to suffer the same season-ending injury two years in a row.
