An anxious Ibrox support felt Rangers should have pressed harder to get the goals that would have put them ahead on Wednesday night.
Philippe Clement, however, is adamant he will not rush the striker back, with many nervous Nells in the stands believing this is the final piece of the Belgian puzzle. Kemar Roofe has once again had a disappointing season and fans are desperate for the former Leeds ace to return to consistent action. Whether it was last year’s Hampden hook against Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup semi-final or the Sevilla strike that secured the Gers a place in the last 16 of the Europa League, Roofe has shown he can be the man for the big occasion – when appropriate.
But therein lies the problem as the 31-year-old has been sidelined again with yet another back injury. He has made 15 appearances this season, but that equates to a rather modest 554 minutes, while last season he played even fewer with six.
He was on the brink on Wednesday night as the Gers failed to get the goal they needed to replace Celtic at the Premier League summit to Ross County.Cyriel Dessers grabbed the cleats but many players left after the final whistle convinced Roofe would have helped himself to an even bigger haul – and deserved to send him top of the table – on a night Rangers created a staggering 42 chances..;.
