The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a historic 13-4 regular season that featured a defensive unit that led a lot of statistical categories across the board. That usually comes with other teams pillaging the coaching staff, and the Ravens are no exception. The Miami Dolphins hired away former defensive line coach Anthony Weaver as their new defensive coordinator, leaving a hole in the staff at that position.
On Wednesday, according to CBS Sports, Baltimore is hiring former Baylor Bears defensive line coach Dennis Johnson to fill that role. “The Baltimore Ravens are hiring Dennis Johnson as their defensive line coach, source says,” CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones posted on social media. “Johnson was most recently the DL coach at Baylor University. Big role filled for the Ravens.
Johnson has served as the defensive line coach at Baylor since 2020, and previously held the same role at his alma mater, LSU. At just 35 years old, the Ravens are his first NFL coaching job, as he helped instruct a Baylor defensive unit that ranked top 20 in the country in rushing defense, points allowed and sacks per game. Johnson will take over a unit that’s set to return most of its core players from last season, with the exception of Justin Madubuike, who’s set to hit the free agent open market on March 13 unless the team uses the franchise tag on him or can re-sign him to a long-term deal.
