Frankfort (KY.) Western Hills 2025 edge rusher Javeon Campbell has quickly become a hot commodity.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder has been a standout on the hardwood, but tried out football for the first time last season and dominated in his opening act.
Despite being new to playing the game of football, Campbell racked up 14.5 sacks on the season and caught the attention of college programs across the country.
His potential, athleticism and production has helped him land several offers including Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame and West Virginia among others.
Another school that has shown interest in the intriguing edge rusher is Michigan. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has been in recent contact, which caught the talented youngster by surprise.
“I was excited,” Campbell told The Michigan Insider. “They’re national champs and he was a huge hire! He’s a great guy. He has a great resume coaching in the NFL and knows what it takes to get to the next level and coaches at a high level.
“He just said he’s excited to get to know me and see me on Monday. I’m excited to get recruited by him!”
Campbell will get his first look at the Maize and Blue program as he’s slated to visit campus on Monday.
It’s also a trip that comes with some ties.
“Looking forward to seeing how a championship team practices,” Campbell said. “I also have family in Michigan, so there are a few ties as well. I don’t think they are able to get off work. My coach is taking me, but my dad is a Lions fan.”
247Sports’ National Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu’s evaluation of Campbell:
Junior year was first of playing high school football but adjusted quickly and was frequently making plays in the backfield. Basketball background shows up in his athleticism and movement. Has good quickness off the snap and closing speed, especially at his size. Has the frame to still grow further. Could ultimately line up almost anywhere along the defensive line and in a variety of schemes and fronts. Currently is more of an edge-rusher, but could kick inside at times and play end in an odd front also. Physical for how new he is to the game. Still has work to do technically and with his hands, but he should continue to pick up the nuances of the position and all the physical tools are there.
There are currently no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in at this time.
Campbell sits as the No. 466 overall prospect in the 2025 class, the No. 31 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 3 player in the state of Kentucky for his class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
