The Detroit Lions have potentially found a veteran replacement for left guard Jonah Jackson.
According to multiple reports, guard Kevin Zeitler is planning to sign a one-year contract with Detroit Tuesday after traveling to town to take a physical.
Detroit lost Jackson, its starting left guard, who signed a lucrative three-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams last week.
Zeitler, 34, has appeared in 182 games, and earned a Pro Bowl berth last season with the Baltimore Ravens.
The veteran lineman has also had stints with the Giants, the Browns and the Bengals over the span of his 12-year career. Last season, Zeitler battled both knee and quad injuries for an offensive line unit that made strides blocking for Lamar Jackson.
Detroit’s front office could still look to the draft to add depth to the offensive line, as many pundits believe the class is quite deep at the position.
It will be worth monitoring how the Lions handle their guard rotation in training camp, as Zeitler has played a significant amount at the right guard position.
Graham Glasgow, meanwhile, is expected to be Detroit’s starting right guard after a successful 2023 season.
Zeitler was the No. 27 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and started his career in Cincinnati.
The Ravens likely made a calculated decision to not sign Zeitler to a contract extension, in order to save cap space.
