No. 8 Tennessee baseball snapped its two-game SEC losing streak on Friday night with a commanding 15-3 run-rule win over Ole Miss in seven innings of game one in this weekend’s three-game series.
The Vols took it to the Rebels in the midst of steady rain inside of Lindsey Nelson Stadium. It didn’t slow down their bats, however, as the Vols slugged five home runs on the night to win their SEC home opener.
Tennessee jumped out to a five-run lead when it scored five runs with two outs in the second inning. It would be all UT needed, though they went on to score three in the third, two in the fourth and five in the sixth to score 15 runs on 13 hits.
Tennessee’s loaded outfield has limited the opportunities that sophomore outfielder Reese Chapman has received this season. That didn’t stop him from taking advantage of his latest opportunity, however.
Chapman sparked UT’s big offensive night when he hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second to score Kavares Tears from second. UT went on to score five runs in the inning following Chapman’s two-out knock.
The right fielder would finish 2-for-2 at the plate with two walks. Chapman also scored a run in addition to driving in three runs.
