About to face off against the Bruins on Saturday night in playoffs, the Leafs added a big Boston University defenceman for next year’s training camp.
The two-year, entry-level contract for Cade Webber — first reported by the Athletic Boston’s Joe Smith last week — was announced Thursday.
It lands Toronto a 6-foot-7 defenceman who weighs in at 208 pounds.
Webber, originally a fourth-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019, had rights acquired via trade last month by the Leafs for a 2026 sixth-round selection.
As part of a four-year NCAA career with the Terriers, the Meadville, Pa., native was named Hockey East’s best defenceman this past season when he had six assists in 38 games. He started in the Tier Two B.C. junior league with the Penticton Vees.
The AAV on the contract is $875,000 US
