Lions President Rod Wood’s description of the new Lions uniform was perfect they honor the past in a modern way.
The Lions had been wearing the previous version of their uniforms for the seven seasons and decided it was time for a change. The new uniforms pay homage to the ones worn by the team in the 1990s. They have similar block-style font and large numbers on the jerseys. The home Honolulu Blue jersey returned to white letters for player names and white numbers trimmed in silver. The white away jersey has the traditional Honolulu Blue letters and numbers in the new font. A noticeable difference between the 90’s version of the jerseys is that the top had three sleeve stripes, and the new ones have two. Gone are the William Clay Ford WCF and Lions wordmark on the sleeves.
Despite Fanatics removal of the images from their website, they were shared multiple times online before being taken down. Following the leak, the Detroit Lions social media department responded with tongue-in-cheek videos.
