Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is arguably one of the best coaches in the NBA right now. But despite his impressive resume, Spo has never won the Coach of the Year award.
The drought continued this year for Erik as the NBA recently named OKC Thunder’s Mark Daigneault, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Chris Finch, and the Orlando Magic’s Jamahl Mosley as finalists to win this year’s Red Auerbach Trophy.
While no one can argue with the success that the three finalists had this season, it’s also difficult to dispute that Spoelstra did a good job with the Heat despite Jimmy Butler missing 22 games during the regular season.
According to former Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, Miami’s tactician was denied of winning the award during his championship years because he had a super team. But now that the Heat don’t have a second superstar behind Butler, Gil thinks the voting panel should consider what Spo is doing in Miami.
