Tennessee fans went out of their way on Monday night to make sure that North Florida transfer guard Chaz Lanier understood how much he’s wanted on Rocky Top. Lanier is in Knoxville to spend Tuesday on an official visit with the Vols.
Fans painted ‘The Rock’ on Tennessee’s campus with a message to Lanier, a native of Nashville, to “come home.” “Lanier 2 Rocky Top” was pained on the back. Lanier posted a photo of the message on his Instagram story, adding a caption of “Woah…”
Lanier is the hottest commodity remaining in the transfer portal and has been a prized target for Tennessee in recent weeks. Lanier took an official visit to BYU over the weekend before visiting Kentucky on Monday.
Lanier entered the transfer portal on April 24 after four seasons at North Florida. He played high school basketball at The Ensworth School in Nashville, Tenn. where he was a three-year varsity letterwinner and averaged 23 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists during final season with the Tigers when he was a finalist for Tennessee’s Mr. Basketball award.
The North Florida star declared for the 2024 NBA Draft on March 16 and is still going through the draft process. He declared while maintaining his final year of eligibility.
