The New York Mets have signed Juan Soto and brought back Pete Alonso this winter. They could be done making moves, meaning one of their key players from 2024 could be playing elsewhere next season.
Jose Iglesias was a key player both on and off the field for the Mets last year. He remains unsigned and The Athletic’s Chad Jennings noted that he could be a fit for the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners are all about being reliably decent, so here’s a veteran second baseman who tends to hit OK while playing solid defense,” wrote Jennings. “He would add stability to a questionable Mariners infield and improve the bench by freeing Dylan Moore to serve as a super-utility man. Otherwise, maybe David Peralta as a left-handed bat off the bench?“
Iglesias slashed .337/.381/.830 last year in 85 games. Perhaps more importantly he created what became the Mets anthem during their turnaround and improbable run to the National League Championship Series, “OMG.” He is long removed from his All-Star season in 2015, but losing him could still be a big blow for the Mets.
