New York Mets superstar Juan Soto spent a small chunk of his $700 million contract to secure his coveted jersey number.
The right fielder has worn No. 22 since his rookie year with the Washington Nationals in 2018, continuing the tradition during sojourns with the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees.
But after his December crosstown move to Queens, Soto encountered a minor snag — his favorite No. 22 was already taken. Infielder Brett Baty has — now, actually, had — been wearing the number since being called up in 2022.
Mo’ Money, Less Problems
But for Soto, money ain’t a thing. The Mets revealed on Instagram this week Soto’s gift to Baty of a 2025 Chevy Tahoe, valued at $92,000 — in exchange for the jersey number.
