VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Alabama track and field phenom Doris Lemngole captured her third NCAA career gold medal, this time in the women’s 5,000m, to highlight the opening day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Lemngole’s 15:05.93 run set the Virginia Beach Sports Center facility record as the Crimson Tide’s standout sophomore accumulated her third national title in nine months. Her first-career NCAA gold medal came in June 2024 when she won the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, while her second came in November 2024 in women’s cross country.
Men’s weight thrower Ruben Banks closed Alabama’s opening day at the national meet, posting another podium finish for the Crimson Tide behind a seventh-place 22.90-meter (75-1.75) throw.
