Former Lady Vols basketball commit Nyla Brooks won’t be coming to Tennessee.
The five-star from Alexandria, Virginia, announced her commitment to North Carolina on Thursday on social media.
Brooks chose UNC over Tennessee, Maryland and Georgia. The 6-foot-2 wing is ranked No. 14 in the 2025 class.
Brooks committed to Tennessee as a sophomore. But when former Lady Vols coach Kellie Harper was fired in April, Brooks de-committed. She received offers from Maryland, North Carolina, Texas, Mississippi State, Florida, Arizona, Clemson, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Ohio State.

Brooks took visits to Maryland and UNC in June and didn’t get to her scheduled visits in the fall before committing. She was supposed to visit the Lady Vols the third weekend of October when Tennessee football hosted Alabama.
Brooks averaged 19.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and one rebound last season as a junior at Bishop Ireton. Her scoring and rebounding averages were career highs for Brooks as she led Bishop Ireton to its first state championship.
