The Oklahoma Sooners had another big weekend, sweeping the No. 15/12 Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville to move to 26-0 on the season and 6-0 in SEC play. The Sooners were tested, but a pair of newcomers rose to the occasion to propel OU to victory on all three days.
Transfer pitcher Sam Landry and true freshman Gabbie Garcia were awesome over the weekend as Oklahoma beat the Razorbacks by scores of 7-0, 6-4, and 10-7. For their efforts in the three-game sweep, Landry was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week and Garcia was named SEC Co-Player of the Week.
Landry kicked off the series with a complete game shutout of the Razorbacks in game one of their Saturday doubleheader before recording saves in the final two games of the series as well. She threw 11.1 scoreless innings and didn’t allow a run against one of the best offenses in college softball. She allowed just seven baserunners in her three outings. This is Landry’s second SEC Pitcher of the Week honor in 2025.
In four games last week, Garcia hit .538 with three home runs, a double, and eight RBIs. She did a lot of her damage in the series finale against Arkansas when she hit a pair of two-run home runs to help lift the Sooners to victory and their second three-game sweep.
Garcia is currently hitting .379 with a team-leading nine home runs. The freshman shortstop is riding a team-best 12-game hitting streak. A stretch that includes five straight games with a home run. She’s the first true freshman to have a home run in five consecutive games since Jocelyn Alo in 2018. This is the second consecutive weekly honor for Garcia who won SEC Freshman of the Week last week.
